Starting your Codecool journey
You’re through the application process, and all that’s left is to start your Codecool journey. Exciting, right?
Don’t think for a second that we’re just going to jump into wild coding sessions immediately. We’re big on community building and having a space where we all know each other and can have fun together. So the most important task in the first week is to get to know everybody and the school as a whole.
Getting to know your peers
The first week at Codecool is packed with activities that will help you get to know the other students, mentors, and staff and familiarize yourself with Codecool culture. We live and breathe our four core values (more on these later) and want all our new joiners to get the chance to immerse themselves in them.
These values shape our culture and create an environment that fosters growth, collaboration, and learning. Our passion for programming is contagious, and it’s reflected in everything we do, from our projects to the events we organize. We’re an open and inclusive community that values diversity and respects everyone’s unique perspectives.
Teambuilding
At Codecool, we believe in the power of teamwork and diversity. We’ll have multiple activities like Codecooler Bingo, a game that forces new programmers to chat with each other, find common interests, and get to know each other’s backgrounds and aspirations.
During your first week, you’ll participate in many team-building activities and workshops like that.
Getting in the growth mindset
At Codecool, we understand that starting a career in tech isn’t easy, but we firmly believe that a growth mindset is key to success. So we’ll help you develop one from the start.
We encourage our students to embrace challenges and view mistakes as opportunities to learn and grow. Our curriculum is designed to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment where you can acquire new skills and build your confidence.

Meet the mentors and staff
Our experienced mentors and staff are here to support you in your learning journey. During your first week, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know them during games, icebreaker exercises, and an office tour.
During our fully online courses the situation is of course a bit different. Expect an onboarding session and introductions, but naturally in-life icebreakers won’t be a thing there. But your mentors will do everythin gin their power to make you feel at ease and welcomed just like you would be during the offline course-start.
Why mentors are essential in developer training
At Codecool, mentors are the cogs keeping the machine together that creates job-ready developers. Mentors are people with heaps of experience in the field who can guide and support you on your learning journey. Our dedicated mentors are passionate about teaching and mentoring, and they’re here to help you achieve your goals.
Whether on weeks when you’re going to be working on individual projects at home or on teamwork-oriented weeks, they’ll always be at arm’s reach to help you.
They’ll also help you learn soft skills and get into the agile way of working. This methodology focuses on continuous improvement, collaboration, and adaptability. It encourages learners to embrace challenges, experiment, and learn from mistakes, all while working closely with others in a supportive environment.

You’ll learn by doing, working on real-life projects from day one, and you’ll have access to our learning platform to help you stay on track. You’ll begin the first of four modules and dive into the exciting world of software development.
With the alternating-week structure of the Full Stack Development Course, you’ll get to work on your own projects and also learn how to work in teams effectively. Just like you would at any workplace. So you’ll have plenty of opportunities to network and collaborate with your peers, but you’ll also become a self-sufficient learner and coder on your own.
